In addition to my journalism experience, I am also pursuing a degree in history, with a concentration in Chinese and Latin American studies and military history. My research interests tend to overlap through these fields, and I often use my media experience to intertwine primary sources and accounts from newspapers and cartoons in my research. Recently, I published my first research paper, "Applying an Intersectional Lens to Chinese Exclusion as seen in Comparing Cartoons from The San Francisco Wasp and Harper's Weekly."

As I continue my career in the news industry, I plan to use the knowledge and experience my history degree has given me as I believe journalists cannot report on the present without understanding the past.
